COLLEGE authorities have acted to improve signage warning people to stay off an open space in Aveley.

The land adjacent to Love Lane was formally home to a secondary school before it was demolished has been owned by South Essex College for many years.

In recent days new signage has been erected at the site stressing the fact that the land is in private ownership and people should not use it without permission.

That has led to some local speculation that there may be some development happening on the site but the College says this is not so and instead says they have acted to curtail 'inappropriate sporadic activities'.

A statement says: "Recently it was noted that the signs previously in place had been vandalised or removed which coincided with reports of inappropriate sporadic activities allegedly taking place.

"Therefore we have replaced the signs to make the college's position clear."
