A MEMBER of the public surprised Blue Watch firefighters at Grays Fire Station as they started their shift, when he made an impromptu visit with goodie bags full of food.

The visit and the donations were even more special to the crew, as Peter and his family had been saved from a house fire in Grays 20 years ago by crews from our Service.

He said: "The station is close to my heart and I'm really grateful of all the work firefighters do. We loved going to see them with some treats, we appreciate what the team are doing and it's not always recognised."

John Warmann, Crew Manager from Blue Watch, Grays Fire Station said: "This extremely kind gesture highlights the continuous support and gratitude being shown by members of the public to the emergency services especially in the current climate.

"We all do our jobs because it is what we love and are trained to do, but it does make it even more worthwhile for someone to take time out and go out of their way to say thank you, especially when it was from a really long time ago."
