VOLUNTEERS supporting the Thurrock branch of the Re-engage charity were delighted to join their guests for a fish and chip treat, courtesy of the Rotary Club of Mar Dyke Valley.

Re-engage offers support to lonely and vulnerable across local communites and the Thurrock branch has a number of groups who it regularly invites to tea parties and special events, where they are looked after by volunteers, often with the support of local businesses and community groups.

Local co-ordinator Loraine Coleman commented on the latest event, saying: "What a wonderful afternoon. We had a delicious lunch, mulled wine, mince pies and were really spoilt the Rotary Club of Mar Dyke Valley members and their wives.

"We finished the afternoon off with a Christmassy rendition of the 12 days of Christmas. So much happiness and laughter getting us all into the Christmas spirit.

"Thank you all so so much again wishing you all a Very Happy Christmas."
