A WALL in Grays is bursting with colour and vibrant energy to support the creation of a new pollination garden.

It's all happening at the Bridge Road end of Grays Riverside Park where the garden is being created by Cherylea Cater with the help of a group of volunteers.

Cherylea explained: "I am on furlough and have time on my hands so I wanted to do something positive and the idea of this pollination garden was born.

"The aim is to create a wild garden with lots of things to attract bees, butterflies and moths and insects that help pollination.

"I put a post on the Grays discussion page that was shared and volunteers came forward, including K& B Design who came up with the design for the mural; that backs the garden."

K&B is a local design agency run by Kirsty Langston and Brittany Abbott-Trangmar and Kirsty explained what they have done, saying: "When we saw Cherylea's post, we thought that was something that's something we would really love to do.

"We knocked something up digitally, showed it to Cherylea who loved it and then sketched it on the wall and made what is almost a massive colour by numbers picture. Now it's just a matter of filling it. We have volunteers from Mind who come down and got involved with us and it's really been a lot of fun."

John Kent of the Riverside Big Local group said: "It's absolutely great. The wort that Cherylea, Kirsty and Brittany have done is fantastic.

"This is the part of Grays Riverside Park that gets the least attention, its been a little bit tatty and unloved but now it getting some real love.

"Please come down and have a look at this. It's a really great project."

There's more good news at the Grays Beach end of the park too.

Recently Thurrock Nub News reported on renovation work at the park and the opening of a new takeaway kiosk.

One of the problems being tackled by volunteers was the fact that there were no toilets because the main café is closed because of coronavirus rules, but now two temporary toilets have been put in place.
