Three days on, council still not clear on what has caused Collins House problems that means elderly residents will spend another night away from their beds

RESIDENTS at a Thurrock care home will spend a third night away from their rooms as Thurrock Council says it still does not have a clear understanding of what caused a power failure there on New Year's Eve.

This evening, more than 50 hours after the problem first arose, the Collins House complex in Corringham which houses up to 45 single elderly residents, including some with dementia, remains closed.

Residents were evacuated to other centres or placed with family or carers as council contractors moved in to assess the problem on Tuesday.

Today the council says it still is not clear on what has caused the fault and how long it will take to resolve.

Workmen, including contractors from the council's partner company Mears, have been on site for more than two days but appear no nearer on resolving issues.

The council told Thurrock Nub News this evening (Thursday, 2 January): "We will of course send updates when there is something meaningful to report. This is likely to be once we are clear on what has caused the fault and how long it will take to resolve. However, should anything important need to be sent we will do as soon as we can."
