AHEAD of the vote this afternoon (Monday, 6 June) by Conservative MPs after a vote of no confidence was triggered by Tories at Westminster Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price has spoken about her party's leader.

She told Thurrock Nub News: "The Government asked a great deal of the British public during the Covid pandemic and many people have been dismayed that while they were complying with the rules, those asking them to do so were not.

As MPs we must uphold the principle that lawmakers are not lawbreakers. That goes even more so for the Ministers who are making the law.

"Had the Prime Minister shown more contrition and regret at the time the Party stories emerged I suspect he would not be facing this confidence vote.

"I am very proud to the leadership he has shown in Ukraine. I like his commitment to levelling up. It is a commitment which is genuine.

"I am however very disappointed with the leadership culture and with the direction of Government spending. Whatever the outcome of today's confidence vote there must be change so that this Government better reflects Conservative values."

East Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe has also been asked to comment.

Basildon and Billericay MP John Baron has already made his views on the PM quite clear, publicly condemning him last week: https://basildon.nub.news/news/local-news/basildon-and-billericay-mp-john-baron-calls-on-boris-johnson-to-quit-135101
