COUNCILLORS will be updated this week on work being carried out to improve Thurrock Council's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities service (SEND).

The service was given a fairly damning review when inspected by Ofsted inspectors and last year a plan was put in place to remedy a significant number of failings.

Key to the task is reducing the caseload of specialist council workers and at tomorrow's (Tuesday, 4 February) meeting of the Children's Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee, members will be told: "The council have identified additional resources to address the issues around capacity to deliver.

"This will ensure that caseloads are reduced from the current 300 to under 200 thus providing a more responsive service."

A further ten identified courses of action to improve matters are detailed in the report to the meeting, which can be read via the red button below.
