USP Palmers College staff member confirmed as Covid case: Message to parents and a deep clean follows

By Neil Speight   26th Sep 2020

A MEMBER of staff at USP Palmers College in Grays has been confirmed as having contracted the Covid-19 virus.

This has meant a number of members of staff and students have had to enter self isolation for 14 days.

This evening (Friday, 25 September) college principal and CEO Dan Pearson has contacted parents to offer them assurance about the safety of students at the sixth form establishment.

He says: "We have today been notified by Public Health England that a member of staff has tested positive for Covid-19.

"I understand this may cause some concern, but I want to provide some reassurance and information about the action we are taking in accordance with government guidelines for schools and colleges.

"From the moment we were informed of the positive test, all processes and procedures advised were enacted.

"The College followed the guidance and identified those young people and staff that had been in contact with the member of staff.

"We have spoken directly to all students and members of staff with whom that member of staff has been in close contact and, in line with advice from Public Health England and NHS 111, these members of staff and the relevant bubble of students have been sent home to self-isolate for 14 days.

"We remain open to all other students in different social bubbles and designated areas of the College campus. This means your young person should continue to attend their lessons as normal. In-line with our plans, the relevant areas of College will undergo a deep clean this evening."
