Van man and reckless driving illustrates danger on estate road where children's home is planned says resident

A RESIDENT opposed to the creation of a children's home on a borough residential estate has including traffic and driving concerns among her reasons – and has been able to illustrate her point with a shocking piece of driving from a delivery driver.

Lisa Gouge, a neighbour of the proposed home at Gunning Road, Grays, which was given the green light by Thurrock Council planning officers, says children could be put at risk by the nature and volume of traffic on the road.

She says: "I was one of the residents opposing this change as I listed various concerns, one being the road is a small cul-de-sac and busy.

"Last week a DPD van came hurtling down the wet road, speeding past the house. He missed my green food bin that had blown into the road. But he decided to reverse at speed, went over my bin, stopped, pulled the damaged bin out from under the van and threw it into my garden and drove off.

"Our road normally has parked cars along and vehicles are constantly speeding and reversing at speed along it.

"The children's home is literally on the junction.

Since living at my house I'm worried one day a vehicle will hit our house due to dangerous driving in our small estate. There is a lower speed sign on the entrance of the estate and it makes no difference.

"The driver in the film showed no awareness or care. Imagine if that bin had been a child!"

Residents are asking Thurrock Council to reconsider the planning permission for the home – or at the very least to introduce more safety measures on the road.

Thurrock Nub News has asked DPD to comment, but has received n0o resp[onse, while Ms Gouge has reported the matter to Essex Police.
