Villagers take their protest over 2,000 homes plan to Town Hall

By Nub News Reporter 6th Dec 2024

CAMPAIGNERS opposed to the development of a 2,000 strong housing development between West Horndon and Bulphan handed in a petition to Thurrock Council today (Friday, 6 December).

It was received at the Town Hall in Grays by the council's portfolio holder for good growth, Cllr Lee Watson, who then invited residents into the council chamber for a discussion on the issue.

The petition was concieved at a meeting of residents of both villages last month following submission of the planning application.

Attending at the handover were members of West Horndon and Bulphan Green Belt Guardians who included West Horndon parish councillors among their number.

Villagers from West Horndon and Bulphan issued the following after their visit: "We were met by Councillor Lee Watson who received the objections. We were invited into the council chambers to share our concerns and a good positive discussion was had. Further conversations will continue as we move ahead.

"We are not alone in the battle to save the countryside and the green belt.

"A massive thank you to Alpesh Patel, owner of Jacksons convenience store in West Horndon for allowing the objection form collection boxes to be located in the store."

The planning application for the development can be found via this link.
