A GROUP of enthusiasts who literally take Thurrock to the rest of the world are hosting a course for anyone who would like to join them in their hobby.

Thurrock Acorns Amateur Radio Club regularly attend local events, showcasing their work and enabling people from Thurrock to make contact and spread their messages around the globe.

Now the group is planning to host a basic radio training course on Saturday, 1 February in Grays.

The syllabus followed will enable those wishing to take the radio amateurs foundation exam to gain the necessary knowledge for this exam.

Although the course will cover most of the Foundation syllabus it is essential that those wishing to take the radio exam purchase the "Foundation Licence Manual for Radio Amateurs" to complement the training.

If you would like to be included on this course you should email your name, whether student or employed and if in employment occupation/retired and telephone number to [email protected] by Wednesday 8 January.

For those just completing the basic radio course the cost will be a contribution to the hire of the room. For those wishing to sit the amateur radio Foundation exam the cost is £27.50 which the Radio Society of Great Britain charge for the exam. Plus you will need a copy of "The Foundation Licence Manual for Radio Amateurs" from the RSGB price £4.99. at http://www.rsgbshop.org/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Training_19.html - access via the rd button below. Full information will be sent, to those registered, after 8 January.
