THE refurbished Tilbury War memorial area played host to its firt Remembrance Sunday service today (Sunday, 9 November) and was very well-attended.
Youngsters from across Tilbury's schools played a key role in the parade ahead of the service and in wreath-laying.
The children were part of the Gateway Learning Community schools, whose spokesperson said: "Today our Head Pupils from across The Gateway Learning Community were truly honoured to take part in the Tilbury Remembrance Service at the Tilbury Cenotaph.
"They laid wreaths on behalf of their academies to honour those who have served and sacrificed.
"We were incredibly proud of how respectfully and thoughtfully they represented their academies — they were a real credit to The Gateway Learning Community and our wider community. Well done to our fantastic Head Pupils."
Music was provided by Tilbury Band.

Tilbury Cllr Kairen Raper (above) laid a wreath on behalf of the Mayor and Thurrock Council.
Colour to match the sentiment of the day at the recently restored and extended memorial area was provided in the upgraded planters.
Craig Austin, chair of Tilbury Community Forum, said: "We reached out to Tilbury business Limelight Horticulture for advice on what plants we could use for our planters on Civic Square in time for Remembrance Sunday.
"Without hesitation they said don't worry we'll do it for you. Supplied and planted free of charge, what a wonderful gesture for our community and what a difference they've made!!!!
"Thank you everyone at Limelight Horticulture, you're amazing."
