Grays Athletic 1, Aveley 6

BOXING day turned into a festive occasion to forget for Grays fans - but Thurrock's Merry Millers are is top spirits after a tremendous derby win.

Played out at Parkside, where both sides play, the landlords who are riding high in the Bet Victor Isthmian North proved far too strong for their tenants, who were technically the home side.

Aveley went into the break with a two goal lead thanks to George Sykes (14 minutes) and Shad Ngandu's 22nd minute penalty and they went on to blitz Grays in the second half.

In front of a crowd of 361 Alex Akrofi scored just after the hour and then Ngandu grabbed a second penalty and completed his hat-trick with his third on 81 minutes.

Sub Tony martin wrapped up Grays' misery with Aveley's sixth in the 84th minute and not even a late consolation from Joao Carlos could lighten the mood.

Tilbury 5, Canvey island 2

AND there were goals galore at Chadfields where Tilbury beat their Thames neighbours Canvey Island.

Brian Moses opened the scoring for Dockers on 19 minutes before Jason Hallett equalised eight minutes later.

Ola Ogunwamide scored just before the break to give Tilbury a half time lead and Moses stretched it two minutes after the resumption.

Though Kane Gilbert pulled one back almost immediately, Moses completed his hat-trick on 52 minutes and David Knight made it five three minutes later.

Sam Bantick got one back for Canvey on 73 minutes but it was not enough to darken Dockers' winning day.
