Good night for the Rocks and Grays

By Neil Speight 30th Mar 2022

A SINGLE goal from Ollie Miles proved enough to keep East Thurrock United's hopes of avoiding relegation from the Isthmian Premier League alive.

It came in the 19th minute of Tuesday evening's (29 March) home clash with Potters Bar Town and Rocks protected the lead with dogged determination to record their first back to back wins of the season, building on Saturday's win at Corinthian Casuals.

The three points – earned in front of a crowd of 178 - lifted Rock above Leatherhead and they now sit three points behind 18th-placed Merstham and 19th-place Brightlingsea Regent.

And, with just five matches left, they have a chance to make up further ground on Saturday when Merstham are the next visitors to Rookery Hill.

And a single goal victory was enough to boost Grays Athletic's hopes of a play-off place in the Isthmian North.

Their goalscorer in the 1-0 victory at struggling Hullbridge Sports was Aron Gordon, who scored in the 27th minute.

The win puts Grays two points ahead of Dereham in the final play-off spot. The run-in looks set to go to the wire with Dereham beating fourth-placed Brentwood and Maldon retaining their interest in the play-offs with a win at Felixstowe and Walton.
