SUPPORTERS of the Thurrock Hammers speedway club are looking forward to seeing the club's badge once more in competitive action next month.

After 34 years of racing, the club found itself without a home and folded in 2018 but supporters have kept the club's brand alive and are mounting a strong campaign to get a new stadium built in the borough so the Hammers can race at home again.

Former riders are also very much a part of the campaign and several will be donning Hammers racing jackets again for a match to be held at the home of the Kent Royals over Easter.

Hammers will be back on track after receiving an invitation to resurrect the Tunnel Trophy Challenge against the Kent Royals at Iwade on Easter Sunday, 17 April (gates 10.30am, tapes up midday).

The fixture will be a meeting of old friends as long-term Hammers Ben Morley, Alfie Bowtell and Danno Verge will be lining up for the Royals but the Hammers are are confident of putting out a very competitive seven strong team, with Oxford's Jordan Jenkins and Sam Hagon and Plymouth's Ben Trigger already committing to the fixture.

A statement from Hammers supporters says: "We also have agreements in principle with two other exciting NL heat leaders and should be able to announce the complete line-up over the next week or so.

"We are very grateful to Si Kellow from the Royals for the invitation and encourage as many Hammers fans as possible to get along to Iwade to support both this fixture and the remaining Royals meetings throughout the season."
