Exceptional performances from Grays club in two major events

MARTIAL arts exponents from a thriving Grays club have been successful at two recent championships.

Members of Yamaguchi Goju-Kai Karate-Do took part in the British championships at the Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield, and the English International Open at Crystal Palace Sports Complex.

The club is taught by Shihan Mark Adams, a 7th Dan master in his sport, who told Nub News: "At the British champships we did great, with four golds, two silver and two bronze medals.

"Out of 61 clubs we made third on the medal table which was a fantastic result for a small club."

Results at Sheffield:

Gold: Pairs kata, Michael Barber and Tomas Gudaitis, Para Kata, Michael Barber, Kata Pairs kata Eva Barts and Talia Graves, Nila Chuhan, Super Vet.

Silver: Para Daniel Barber, Team kata Michael Barber, Sammi Hadzic and Tomas Gudaitis.

Bronze: Eva Barts, Kumite. Nila Chauhan, Vets Kata.

Mark continued: "Again we enjoyed great results from the EKF International Open at Crystal Palace. All participants gave outstanding performances and we enjoyed excellent results with two gold and and three silver medals.

"Leya Barts took gold in Kata and silver in Kumite, Tomas Gudaitis won gold in Kata, and there were silvers for Troy Borges and Annie Alderton in Kata.

"I had good feedback from the national Kata coach on the day and was contacted by the National Kumite coach to invite Leya to trials for the national Kumite squad. Hard work pays off.
