The weather might make an impact on today's planned matches, as it did in midweek when both Tilbury and Grays saw matches called off – so fans are advised to check before setting out.

Aveley will be making their way to Hampton and Richmond in the Vanarama National South, hoping to build on a recent improvement in form – and get over what manager Danny Scopes hopes will just be a blip on the upward curve when they bowed out of the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday.

Last season Aveley managed to get the better over Hampton & Richmond Borough both home and away, winning 3-0 at home and 1-0 away, however, both sides have gone through mass changes on the pitch, with Hampton having a change of manager too.

So far this season Alan Julian's Hampton & Richmond have had a mixed start with six wins, four draws and six defeats this season, leaving them on 22 points, six points off of the play-offs.

The Beavers have only been defeated once in their last five games, although that game was a Middlesex County Cup game where they were defeated 5-4 on penalties away at Harrow Borough.

In the run of five games it included a 3-1 victory over Eastbourne Borough, 2-0 victory away at Chippenham, a 4-0 victory away at Hemel Hempstead Town, and a 2-0 victory away at Yate Town in the FA Trophy Second Round.

Millers will be looking to make it back to back wins in the Vanarama National South for the first time since late March 2024, where Aveley secured a 2-1 victory over St Albans City, followed by a 4-3 victory over Hemel Hempstead Town away.

Ikechi Eze

One player who won't be travelling is midfielder Ikechi Eze, whose departure from Parkside has been confirmed.

Eze joined Millers at the beginning of November 2023 from Scottish League Two side Stranraer, and made his debut in a 2-0 victory over Weston-Super-Mare at Parkside.

He went on to make 28 appearances last season, scoring a free-kick in a 2-1 victory against St Albans City. This season Kechi has featured 13 times, taking his total Aveley appearances to 41.

Meantime Aveley have once again been paired with National League Barnet in a major cup tie. Following the draw for the FA Trophy third round Aveley will travel to the Hive to meet the Bees.

Last season they were drawn together in the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round, and after a last minute equaliser at Parkside, Millers travelled to The Hive a few days later, but Barnet got a 4-0 win to get to the first round proper.

The Trophy tie will take place on Saturday, 7 December.

Borough sides Grays Athletic and Tilbury will be hoping to enhance their Isthmian North propmotion chances today.

Fifth-placed Grays are at home to struggling Wroxham, who sit second from bottom.

The Yachtsmen have had something of an indifferent season so far, although the past couple of weeks have seen a distinct upturn in their fortunes.

They have accrued 11 points from 16 games. Early-season results were unpromising, their first win not coming until their eighth game, against Mildenhall, followed three weeks later by another victory against Sporting Bengal.

However, their past two games have shown a new resolve against high-flying opponents.

A goalless draw against Witham Town was followed by a very creditable home 2-2 draw against Felixstowe & Walton. Indeed, the Yachtsmen were two goals to the good until the final few minutes, with the visitors equalising in the 96th minute.

Tilbury, who are fourth, face a tougher prospect, travelling to Capershotts to take on seventh-placed Waltham Abbey.

The Abbots have struggled a little recently, picking up just a point from their last two matches (from a 2-2 draw at Haringey). Their only win in November was a 3-1 home Essex Senior Cup success against Grays.

In the Essex and Suffolk Border League Premier Division East Thurrock United Community FC are home to Tiptree Heath, a team they have already beaten 5-1 away this season and a league double would put distance between them and take Rocks further away from the lower reaches of the table.

Rocks will be hosting a collection of items to be donated to Thurrock Foodbank at the match at the Wyldecrest Club.
