Lowestoft Town 2, Tilbury 0
COULD the first trip of the season to Norfolk prove fruitful for Tilbury following midweek cup success against Grays Athletic?
The hurdle in the way was an unbeaten top of the league Lowestoft Town.
Lowestoft provided the early pressure with the first 10 mins being spent in the Tilbury half of the pitch.
The best chance coming on seven mins with Tilbury keeper George Marsh making a one on one save with his legs putting the ball over the bar.
Tilbury took until the 11th minute before any real attempt on the Lowestoft goal. A goalmouth scramble that had a Chris Millar not quiet connecting with his attempt and finishing with Lowestoft stopper Luke Holt going down injured following an Alex Clark Corner causing a break in play.
Upon resumption of play it didn't take long for the deadlock to be broken and Lowestoft confirmed why they are top of the table.
Travis Cole found himself on the end of a well delivered corner sending the ball home from close range to make it one nil on just 13 minutes.
Tilbury had only their second goalbound chance on 25 minutes with Darnell Kithamba putting the ball just wide of Holt's left post following a square ball from Millar.
A Tilbury free kick followed on 35 minutes a David Knight delivery couldn't cleanly find the head of Lewis Jaggs with the ball eventually going out for a goal kick. The free kick appeared to kick Tilbury into gear with a short spell of pressure, Chris Millar striking from the edge of the box only for the ball to be gathered by Holt.
Alex Clark also had a chance blocked following some good link up play to get his shot away. Tilbury looked to be finishing the half the stronger team until against the run of play in the 38th Min a break from Lowestoft moving the ball quickly to the opposite end ended with Kyle Haylock chipping a rushing Marsh from a wide right position 25 yrds out
Another good opportunity for Lowestoft fell to Jake Reed near the end of the half who had his under pressure shot collected comfortably by Marsh.
A David Knight free kick following a foul on Alex Clark was hit low and wide bringing the half to a close.
The second half started somewhat slower with the first real chance of the half coming on 60 minutes.
A break into the box by Lowestoft forced a good tackle from Luke Reeve forcing the ball out for a corner that was eventually collected comfortably by Marsh. This was quickly followed by possibly the best chance of the half on 62 had Reed get onto a fantastic ball from Josh Harvey found Reed through but he could only strike wide into the side netting.
Tilbury attempted to find a way back into the game on 75 minutes two consecutive crosses into the box failed to find a Tilbury shirt with the second resulting in a corner that was well delivered onto the head of Luke Reeve who put his solid header over the bar.
Another spell of Tilbury pressure reminiscent of the first half almost ended the same way with a breakaway chipped shot from Lowestoft only finding the hands of Marsh on this occasion. The remainder of the game was an end to end affair with the next goal either putting the game to bed or setting up a grandstand finish ended with nothing but a 2-0 victory for the league leaders.
