Waltham Abbey 3, Tilbury 0

TILBURY's traditional short term love affair with the FA Cup once again petered out with defeat and an exit from this year's competition in the Preliminary Round at Capershotts on Saturday (20 August).

At least they did manage an extra preliminary round win and have banked £1,606 in prizemoney from both games but that will be little consolation for Dockers boss John Coventry who has a successful record in the competition, having reached the first round twice with his former club East Thurrock United.

The first half went OK for the visitors who went into the break with the scoreline goalless but it took just five minutes of the second half for Nathanial Orafu to break the deadlock with a fine goal.

That was all that separated the sides until the closing stages but as Tilbury pressed for an equaliser and Coventry ran the personnel changes to try and grab a goal, Waltham delivered the matchwinning punch with a goal from Christian Guamfi and three minutes from time veteran Billy Holland wrapped up the scoring and dleivered an emphatic first win of the season for the Southern League Central side.
