Dockers have to settle for point in topsy-turvey clash
Tilbury 3, Redbridge 3
TILBURY let a two goal lead slip and conceded an late equaliser as they slipped a little off the pace at the top of the Isthmian North on Saturday (16 November).
They sit fourth but are now eight points behind leaders Bury Town, but do have a match in hand - which comes on Tuesday when they entertain Walthamstow. It will be the chance for revenge after the London side beat them 3-0 at Wadham Lodge in September.
Dockers went into the match in confident mode after the midweek Velocity Cup win at Wingate & Finchley and they took the lead after 30 minutes when Dan Trendall was fouled just outside the righthand side of the penalty area. Macauley Joynes floated the free-kick to the back post where Alex Hernandez was waiting to head home his twelfth goal in 12 matches for Tilbury.
Just four minutes later, Tilbury thought they had doubled their lead when a slotted pass made its way to Trendall inside the penalty area, but his effort rolled agonisingly wide of the post.
But the hosts would extend the leadon 39 minutes with a chance again created by Trendall as he opened space on the right-hand side before cutting the ball back to Igli Metalia. The full-back chopped past a defender and drilled a strike (with help from a deflection) that found the back of the net.
Redbridge pulled a goal back just before the hour with a wonderful strike from Tendi Quamina that flew into the top right corner via the woodwork.
And the visitors then levelled the scoring on 66 minutes when Jack Hayes seemed to be fouled by Quamina as he took the ball from the defender. Play continued and Hayes managed to recover to make a vital goal line clearance, but nothing could be done about Charlie Stimson's follow-up.
Dockers regained their lead with 13 minutes on the clock as the ball fell to Jamie Reynolds just inside the area following a corner. Reynolds cannoned his strike goalward and despite his best efforts, Sam Nwabuko was unable to keep the effort out.
The lead was short-lived however, as just three minutes later Quamina was at the heart of another Redbridge attack, his powerful shot from close range levelled the scoring once again and this time there was no comeback for the hosts who had to settle for a share of the points.
Dockers are back in action on Tuesday (19 November) when they entertain Walthamstow.
