Game on for Dockers on an afternoon when fingers will be crossed for much-needed wins by borough sides
THE pitch at Tilbury's EMR Stadium ground on Chadfields passed a morning inspection and today's (1 February) Isthmian North clash with Cambridge City will go ahead.
January, despite a number of postponements, was a productive one for the Dockers, picking up ten points from five fixtures with just one defeat, last weekend's trip to Concord Rangers.
Three wins and a draw have lifted Tilbury back into the promotion play-off zone, where they sit fifth - four places and five points ahead of today's visitors.
When the two sides met in Cambridgeshire in May, Tilbury spoiled the home side's party for the first match at their new stadium, winning 2-1 with goals from Sam Bantick and Alex Hernandez.
Grays Athletic's January was something of a roller-coaster for Blues fans. They played just four matches and picked up four points, but it was an eclectic mix of outcomes, starting with a narrow 1-0 defeat at promotion challengers Waltham Abbey, then a 2-2 draw at another high-flying side Witham showed promise of a climb back up the table.
That was followed by a stunning away 3-1 win at league leaders Felixstowe but Grays crashed back down to earth last weekend when Waltham Abbey completed a season league double at Chadfields with a bizarre 5-3 win.
So, after a month of good performances on the road, Grays should be in good heart when they travel to second-from-bottom Haringey Borough today, but Blues fans know only too well they can't afford to count any chickens at at Coles Park.
A win is imperative if Grays are to haul themselves back into promotion contention but Grays are nothing, if not conistently inconsistent.
And three points are equally vital for Aveley, who travel to Chippenham in the Vanarama National league South.
Millers will looking to bounce back from a mid-week defeat to title-chasing Dorking Wanderers with a win to hopefully close the ten point gap to safety.
Aveley eyes at Hardenhuish Park will also be on results elsehere. Welling, who hold that 20th spot above the drop zone go to bottom club Weymouth and relegation rivals St Albans City host play-off chasing Hampton & Richmond, with Enfield Town also at home, to mid-table Farnborough.
In the Essex and Suffolk Border League, East Thurrock Community FC travel to meet Hatfield Peveral at the Keith Bigden Memorial Ground, hoping to bounce back from last weekend's Knock-out Cup penalty shoot-out defeat.
