Tilbury 1 Bury Town 0
FOLLOWING Tilbury's defeat at the hands of Lowestoft last Saturday, the Dockers hoped to bounce back as they faced fourth placed Bury Town.
New signing Archie Edwards, kept his place in the starting line-up as manager John coventry put out an unchanged side from last weekend's fixture.
The home side started strongly and created a chance after just 11 minutes as Kiernan Hughes-Mason found Alex Clark breaking Bury's high defensive line. The winger was through on goal, but his effort was just narrowly wide of the far corner.
Tilbury continued to dominate and in the 28th minute Hughes-Mason spoiled a Bury breakaway with a fantastic interception 10 yards into the opposition half. The midfielder carried the ball forwards with purpose before cutting open the defence brilliantly with a pass to Darnell Kithambo, who was through on goal with just the keeper Lewis Ridd to beat but he was out quick to put the striker off and made a good save to keep the game level.
The visitors would begin to grow into the game just after the break, as Joe Hood had possession on the edge of Tilbury's penalty area. Hood played a great pass to Cruis Nydazayo who, with his back to goal, took the ball on the turn to find space to unleash a shot low and hard towards the near post. However, George Marsh got down well to make an important save with his feet.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 53rd minute as a hopeful ball forward was sent over the Bury defence. The defenders all seemed to fall asleep and stand still as they watched the ball fly over their heads. Clark made the most of this opportunity and exploited their mistake by chasing the ball, preventing it going out of play, before drilling in a square ball for Kithambo. The number 9 slid in between two defenders to finish well from close range and give Tilbury a well-deserved lead.
As Bury fought hard to find an equaliser, the Tilbury defence held firm, led brilliantly by skipper, Connor Martin.
The away side were unable to break down this solid back line and everything they tried was dealt with by Martin, Lewis Jaggs and Luke Reeve.
