Barnet 2, Aveley 0
FOR the second season in succession, despite a creditable performance, Millers bowed out of a national cup competition against Barnet.
Last year the top flight non-League side knocked Aveley out of the FA Cup, today (Saturday, 7 December) they repeated the dose in the FA Trophy.
The Bees marched on into the fourth round of the Isuzu FA in difficult weather conditions at The Hive.
Mark Shelton registered the first shot of the game for the hosts after 12 minutes when his effort at goal was well blocked behind for a corner.
The best chance of the game fell to Reece Hall-Johnson when his advancing run into the box game him room to shoot at goal, but his left-footed shot was well saved by Carey Bloedorm.
The Bees' pressure finally paid off on the 32nd minute when the ball found its way to Nicke Kabamba in the box who blasted the ball past Bloedorm to give the home side the lead.
And Bloedorn was called into action to make a fantastic diving save to deny Zack Brunt the second goal of the game on the stroke of half time.
Shelton registered the first shot of the second half when he tried his luck from the edge of the box, but it rolled wide of the left-hand post.
Shortly after Reece Hall-Johnson fed a cross into Nicke Kabamba who got a slight touch onto the ball but couldn't direct it goalwards.
Just after the hour Aveley came close to an equaliser when Manny Ogunrinde was played in on goal one on one with the keeper but unfortunately, he slipped, and the moment was lost. It could have been a massive chance for the Millers to turn the tide.
However, they continued to press came close a late shock when sub Razzaq Coleman-Degraft took a shot on from inside the box, but Danny Collinge was there to put the block in.
Kabamba came close to grabbing his second with 10 minutes to go but Blordorn made another good save to deny the Bees once again.
Four minutes later and the game was wrapped up as Zak Brunt danced around the Aveley defence before slotting the ball into the bottom corner to seal the win.
