Dulwich Hamlet 3, Aveley 3
EMOTIONS ran high in a cut-and-thrust Isthmian Premier encounter at Dulwich on Tuesday (28 October) which ultimately saw Millers manager Brett Munyard get a red card.
The hosts made the brighter start with Sol Baugh prominent and the first significant chance fell their way when Lonit Talla picked out captain Nyren Clunis, who was celebrating his 500th appearance for Hamlet – but he shot straight at Aveley keeper Joe Wright.
Shortly after a shot from Anthony Cook crashed against the Millers' woodwork and Talla's follow-up header couldn't quite find the target.
However, Aveley settled to their task and began to get into the match. After a period of parity they took the lead on 37 minutes when Ollie Peters' through ball found Ryan Charles in space behind the Hamlet backline and he delivered a low cross into the six-yard box that was met by Christopher Harris who slotted home.
It was lead that Millers took into the break, though on balance it probably wasn't a fair reflection of the opening stanza.
But it's goals that count and Aveley were to add another just six minutes after the resumption. This time the goal was all of Harris's own making, he picked up a scrappy ball in the penalty area and found the back of the net for his second of the evening.
It looked as if Aveley were in the driving seat but the second goal lifted Hamlet from a lethargic start to the half and they began to push Millers back, resulting in a goal created by Michael Chambers whose 61st minute delivery picked out sub Amadou Kassarate who made an immediate impact off the bench by heading home.
And Millers' lead evaporated ten minutes later to the same combination, Kassarate heading home Chambers' superbly flighted corner.
Millers assistant manager Adam Bailey-Dennis delivers his post-match thoughts:-
Momentum looked to have shifted completely, but it was Aveley who were to score next – and quickly! Just two minutes had passed from Kassarate before home stopper Toby Bull was picking the ball out of his net after being beaten by Millers sub George Saunders.
That looked decisive and Millers tried to slow down the play and hold their advantage but they were undone with three minutes of normal time to go when Talla scored. His initial effort from a free kick was blocked by the wall but he fired the rebound past an unsighted Wright for the leveller.
In the aftermath, Munyard got a red card from referee Steven Goldup, who then allowed eight minutes of added time during which Millers were grateful to a good save from Wright to ensure they left Champion Hill with something for their efforts.
Millers will be back in action with a first home league match in five outings when they entertain Ramsgate on Saturday (1 November).
