AVELEY, who moved into the semi-final of the Thameside Trophy with an emphatic win on Wednesday evening, will be wary of a banana skin as they continue their quest for the Isthmian Premier title at Parkside today (Saturday, 25 March).
The third-placed Millers are three points behind leaders Hornchurch and on paper should have no trouble against bottom club Brightlingsea Regent, who have yet to win away in the league this season.
However, manager Danny Scopes knows there is always the possiblity of an upset and, with six games to go in the league campaign, says: "We expect a tough match in game number 37, as we did in game number one and have had all season."
After today's match Aveley's next encounter will be the Thameside Trophy semi-final on Tuesday (28 March) against Grays Athletic.
Grays are still very much in contention for a play-off place in the Isthmian North and make the short trip to mid-table Brentwood Town this afternoon in sixth place and they know a win would put them back in the promotion play-off zone if either Felixstowe or Stowmarket fail to win against Basildon United and runaway leaders Hashtag United respecively.
However, it won't be easy at the Arena Stadium, Brentwood are on a fine run with only one defeat in ten matches.
East Thurrock United, who have brought a raft of new players into the club in midweek, are safe in midfield and manager Steve Butterworth will clearly have an eye on next season as he looks at new faces in the home clash with Heybridge Swifts, who are still in with a shout of going up via the play-offs.
At the bottom, it's a big day for Tilbury who travel to fellow relegation zone side Coggeshall Town.
The Dockers are fourth from bottom - in one of the two positions which would mean an end of season relegation play-off - while Town are second bottom four points behind them.
Tilbury are five points and a place behind 16th place Witham and with just six matches left they are in desperate need of a morale-boosting win.
Tilbury have won one and lost nine of their last ten, but have looked improved of late; while their hosts have only two defeats from their last nine but conversely are without a win in five.
