Call for public to take a moment of tribute and respect to help bereaved families at difficult time

ONE of Thurrock's undertakers has asked local residents to pay tribute to those who have passed away - but whose death can't be mourned properly because of coronavirus.

West & Coe, which has branches in Aveley and Grays, says it will mean a lot to bereaved families to know they are not alone at a time of loss when access to funerals is limited.

The firm says: "During these difficult times when attendance at funerals is restricted to only very close family, our chance to support the bereaved is limited.

"So, we wondered if we could revive an old tradition that would show these families that their loss is noticed and shared by us all in the community?

"If you see a hearse, could you stop, stand for a moment as it passes, perhaps take off your cap and bow your head?

"It would mean so much in a time of great sadness."
