A SECOND bid to turn a redundant office into homes has been rejected by planning officers.

Last year Thurrock Nub News reported on the second attempt to get planning permission for the premises on a small shopping parade in Corringham.

It was hoped to turn the premises into three flats - and the applicants said they had taken on board the advice of planners.

However, the application has been refused, with officers saying: "The proposals would, by virtue of the loss of the existing offices and printers to the ground floor, result in the loss of employment generating uses in the parade, and in the absence of any meaningful or robust evidence demonstrating the contrary, the proposals could be harmful to the viability of the locality."

Officers added: "The detailed design of the ground floor frontage would result in the future occupiers of the ground floor unts having no private defendable space, with no barrier, design detail or physical separation between the main living area room and the public footpath."
