A BOROUGH councillor has called for action after the latest crash on a troublesome junction between Chadwell St Mary, Grays and Tilbury.

The junction on Marshfoot Road with the sliproad to the A1089 has been blighted by many crashes.

Essex Police have previously recommended some changes to the junction but Thurrock Council, which is responsible for highways, says the junction does not require improvements or changes.

Nevertheless the accidents keep occurring on a regular basis and the latest, this afternoon (Monday, 25 September) has prompted Tilbury councillor John Allen, who witnessed its aftermath, to call for a change.

"There is clearly something wrong with this junction. People may well say it's driver error, but it happens far too often, he says.

"There needs to be a proper review of the junction, the angles and speed of approach, the signage and the traffic islands.

"You are never going to eliminate driver error but you can cut down on the probability. It's time to act."

This afternoon's accident, around 4.30pm, involved at least two vehicles - one of which was very badly damaged.

Emergency services have been asked for details of the crash.
