RESIDENTS in high rise flats in Grays are to get free parking during the coronavirus clampdown.

In recent days residents have found that with the number of people staying at home they have had difficulty in finding places to park safely - and some have been ticketed by Thurrock Council enforcement officers.

However, Grays Riverside ward councillors Martin Kerin, Jane Pothecary and Tony Fish have taken up their case and won a concession from the authority.

Cllr Kerin says: "During the duration of the crisis residents will be able to park free in the Grays Beach car park.

"This will provide much needed additional parking for our residents during the lockdown.

Pleased to have worked constructively

"Residents have to display the name of their block and a phone number in the windscreen.

"We are pleased to have worked constructively with the Council and to have secured this and wholeheartedly welcome this move by Thurrock Council.

During these difficult times, it is important that there is additional parking capacity for our residents in the six tower blocks.

"We are pleased that Thurrock Council have addressed and acted on our concerns and for our residents and are looking forward to continuing to work constructively with the council during these unprecedented times.

"We hope these measures will help our residents in the flats."
