Driver set for voluntary interview after Orsett Road shop crash

ESSEX Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the incident when a car left the road and smashed into a Grays town centre shop.

As reported on Thurrock Nub News, a car crashed into Grays General Stores on the evening of Wednesday, 12 March, when the shop – which was open – was occupied by the owner and his wife.

They escaped injury, other than shock, but the driver of the vehicle was arrested, breathalysed and then taken to Basildon Hospital for treatment.

In a statement appealing for witnesses or help from the public, police said: "A 31-year-old man, from Grays, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving."

No charges have yet been made by police investigating the incident and. Almost a week after the event, a latest statement says: "Evidential samples taken at hospital. As a result of effectively getting everything needed to 'ensure a prompt investigation', the man was released and will be attending a voluntary interview this week."
