A WOMAN who died after being taken ill near Grays rail station yesterday (Thursday, 16 November) has been identified.

Patricia Sullivan, from Bethnal Green, was visiting the town to sort out affairs at her brother's flat, following his passing earlier this year – making it a double tragedy for her family.

Ms Sullivan died despite the best efforts of emergency services who rushed to the scene when the incident happened just before 4pm.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.58pm to a medical emergency outside the train station in Grays.

"An ambulance, two rapid response vehicles, an ambulance officer vehicle and a response car from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of medics, an adult woman was pronounced dead at the scene."

Several passers by helped, among them Jamie Fox who administered first aid and CPR until the ambulances crews arrived.

Patricia's cousin Karen spoke on behalf of the family, thanking borough people for the many messages of sympathy and condolence and specifically thanking Mr Fox and others who helped at the scene, saying: "Jamie tried his best to save Pat and we are so grateful to him. Bless him."
