AN operation involving British Transport Police officers and c2c officers at Stanford-le-Hope rail station netted 86 fare evaders.

It took place last night (Tuesday, 19 November).

Because of a planned rebuilding of the station which has largely been out on hold, the station has no ticket barriers.

However, last evening travellers were asked to produce their tickets and a significant number did not gave them.

A statement from the police says more deployments are planned in the future.

Meanwhile some work has restarted at the station. Workmen have been removing large trees at the side of the London-bound platform, which is due to be expanded.
