FRIENDS of Thurrock Labour Party stalwart Colin Ricks, who died recently, have launched a crowd-funding page to ensure that he receives an appropriate funeral.

Mr Ricks was also a well-known member of the borough scouting community but ill-health meant that when he died his financial position was not great, so friends have stepped up.

Former borough mayor and well-known local man Carl Morris was a long time friend of Mr Ricks and said: "Colin's family were not prepared for the high cost of funerals and have been worried sick about it.

"I spoke to Colin's partner Valerie this morning; she is very grateful to those who are helping, she asked me to pass on her sincere thanks."

"Thanks to people's generosity, and in less than 48 hours, we have raised an amazing £2,700. We are well on the way to our target of £5,000.

"We have made significant progress - but we are not there yet. So, if you have yet to contribute or know somebody who knew Colin and would like to help, this is the link to use and share. Give Colin the funeral he deserves

"The funds raised so far will be transferred to the funeral directors directly, and, as soon as I have details of Colin's funeral, I will let people know.

"The generosity of Labour members and friends of Colin is immensely heartwarming and a measure of the high regard many had for him."
