OFSTED inspectors have rated Stanford-le-Hope secondary school St Clere's as 'good' across all categories after an inspection last month.

An Ofsted team spent two days at the school on Butts Lane on 239 and 30 April and their report has now been published.

Head of School and local man Jon Purkiss, who joined the school in April 2010 and rose through the ranks to become senior officer in September 2023, has had the task of steering it through a significant crisis in recent years after discovery of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) meant closure of large sections of the school and migration to temporary buildings.

Mr Purkiss says: "I am delighted to share with you the positive news that our recent Ofsted inspection has resulted in a good rating in all categories for our school.

"This achievement reflects the dedication, hard work, and commitment of our staff, students and wider school community.

"School leaders are proud of this recognition given the challenges we have faced with RAAC.

"The report acknowledges our continuous efforts to provide the best possible education and support for our students.

"It also recognises the journey of school improvement we are on, and the progress we have made.

Jon Purkiss was particularly pleased with recognition for St Clere's Sixth Form.

"I am proud of the recognised high expectations that we hold for all our students and was particularly pleased that our new sixth form was graded 'good' with students being highly positive about their experience here at the school.

"It also recognised our highly inclusive culture and how the visually impaired and deaf students are an integral part of school life.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and carers, for their ongoing support and partnership.

"Their involvement is invaluable, and together we will continue striving for excellence and ensuring that our school remains a nurturing and inspiring place for all students."
