A THURROCK mum has appealed to other parents to show some responsibility after her daughter was the subject of a humiliating and degrading assault by other girls close to a borough park.

The incident and assault were filmed by several of the girls and has been shared on social media.

The incident happened on Monday close to Hardie Park, Stanford-le-Hope, when the young girl, aged 13, who attends Gable Hall School, was surrounded by a group of girls who forced her to her knees and, under threat, made her make statements and then made her kiss their feet.

But that wasn't enough for the assailants, who then beat her leaving her with injuries.

Police were called and are currently investigating the incident.

Thurrock Nub News has seen the film of the humiliation, which has also been forwarded to police, but not the film of the assault which investigating officers hope may be made available to help identify some of the assailants.

Some of their social media tag names are shown on the 40 second video currently in police possession.

We are not going to publish the film as it would only add to the victim's distress at this point in her recovery from the incident. But her mum is keen for local people to know what happened and said: "My daughter has been left with a split lip, possible broken nose and is badly shaken.

"This was totally unprovoked and the whole thing has been filmed. There are currently videos circulating on Snap Chat.

"The incident is being investigated by the police. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone hears their child talking about the incident, or sees them with the film, to please forward the information to police.

"No child should have to go through something like this and I hope the parents of the girls responsible are sufficiently upset by this to do the right thing and come forward before the police track them down, which would make it much worse for their children."

A police statement said: "We are appealing for any witnesses or information in connection with an assault in Stanford-le-Hope.

"We were called at about 12.25pm on Monday, 31 July to reports in an assault in Silverton Avenue.

"The victim reportedly sustained injuries to their face and was taken to hospital.

"We also understand a video of the assault may have been circulated on social media.

"We are urging anyone with any information or footage in relation to this incident to contact us.

"Please quote incident 463 of Monday 31 July.

"You can let us know by submitting a report on our website where you can use our online Live Chat service available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 10am-9pm.

"Visit https://www.essex.police.uk/digital101to find out more about our website reporting services. Alternatively, you can call us on 101.
