STANFORD rail station's main entrance has now reopened after repairs.

As late as Monday evening users of the rail station continued to be inconvenienced following a fire in the early hours of Saturday morning.

People who required step-free access to and from the London-bound platform were advised to use either East Tilbury or Pitsea stations.

The blaze was reported on Thurrock Nub News.

On Tuesday afternoon a spokesperson for c2c said: "Due to a fire that broke out in the security hut at Stanford-le-Hope station during the early hours of Saturday morning, the security hut and electrical and communication room doors have been damaged by the blaze.

"Due to the damage, there is no step-free access to Platform 1 at Stanford-le-Hope station.

"Please use either East Tilbury or Pitsea if you require step-free access. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

However, by Tuesday evening repairs had been carried out and the ticket gates were back in use.
