Police seek witnesses to village hammer attack that left man with serious injuries. Arrested men have been released on bail while probe continues

POLICE officers investigating a serious assault in East Tilbury that took place last week have contacted resdients in the area, asking if they have any information.

A statement says: "We were called to Princess Margaret Road at around 9pm on Wednesday, 14 August following reports of a man being assaulted by a hammer. 

"The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, not believed to be life-threatening. 

"Three men have been arrested on suspicion of affray, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. 

"They have since been bailed while enquiries continue."

Over the weekend there has been more anti-social behaviour in East Tilbury in the area around the rail station.

Police are investigating incidents, possibly involving children, who have been damaging property and putting people at risk by throwing ballast at homes.
