THE latest Thurrock Re-engage tea party was a successful event hosted at Tilbury's London Cruise Terminal, despite being overshadowed by the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

It was hosted by the Port of Tilbury and members of the Tilbury Riverside Project and local volunteers served the afternoon tea.

Regional Re-engage co-ordinator Loraine Coleman said: " big thank you to Lucy and the ladies and Peter from the Tilbury Riverside Project and also our lovely volunteer Aileen for organising this with them.

"Following the very sad news of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II we had a respectful afternoon tea and raised a cup in memory of her.

"Our tea party guests shared their wonderful memories with each other as they could all remember our Queen's Coronation on 2nd June 1953.

"During the event we celebrated four birthdays and were entertained by singer Gerry Lyn. As always, a big thank you to our wonderful, dedicated volunteers for driving our guests and looking after them.

"If it was not for these very special volunteers these fabulous events could not take place."
