RESIDENTS in Thurrock got the chance today (Monday, 9 May) to take a look in person at proposals for a planned new power line that will cut across countryside in the borough.

While the presentation at Chadwell St Mary Village Hall didn't have them queuing through the doors, project director Simon Pepper says there was a steady flow of people through the doors and his team were on hand to answer questions. Full details of the proposal can be seen online and there will be another south Essex presentation in Laindon, later this month.

The National Grid is proposing a new 400kV power line known as the East Anglia GREEN project to transfer electricity across the countryside from offshore wind and interconnectors, as well as new proposed nuclear generation at Sizewell C. The line will mostly consist of overhead transmission lines and new 45 to 50-metre tall steel lattice pylons except for where it runs underground through the area of outstanding natural beauty of Dedham Vale.

In Thurrock it will thread through the borough on a route parallel with the A128 and then sweep down to Tilbury, with two current options being considered for how it will go around east Tilbury.

More details about the scheme and other consultation events can be found via this link: https://www.nationalgrid.com/national-grid-consult-east-anglia-green-energy-enablement-green-proposals. Or in our previous preview story. The event in Laindon will take place on Saturday, 21 May from 1 to 6pm at the Laindon Community Centre, Aston Road, Laindon SS15 6N.
