IT'S been a week of decision in Thurrock – one of the most important being an announcement from Thurrock Council that it will be bringing back brown bin collections next week.

The news was announced by environment portfolio holder Cllr Andrew Jefferis and comes after what he described as a successful 'reset' of the council's waste collection services.

It's also been decided that the future of a Thurrock secondary school needs to be put into new hands.

Thurrock Nub News has followed the story of concern and unrest at Gable Hall School, which is currently run by the Ortu Federation Trust.

The school was rated inadequate by Oftsted earlier this year and that led to the departure of the head teacher, the CEO controlling the Fedetarion and now the Department for Education deciding that the Trust itself has to be relieved of responsibility for the school.

A more positive decision came from Thurrock Council, which is pulling out all the stops to ensure that vulnerable children and needy families don't go hungry over the half term.

As half term approaches, Thurrock Council has reminded residents of a busy programme at the Thameside Theatre

On a happier note, Thurrock Nub News was on hand to report on a special presentation to a local hero of the Second World War.

And there were more smiles when a local store and its distribution depot came up with supplies for a tasty event at Treetops School.

Concluding with another decision - on the sporting front there was surprise new that a popular local player and his club have parted ways.
