A RECENT inspection by Keep Britain Tidy has found that all areas of the borough, including parks, town centres and streets are cleaner and clearer than ever with inspectors finding only 3.67 per cent of sites they visited in the borough had litter on them meaning over 96% did not.

On top of this they found, 99 per cent of sites free of fly-posters, 94 per cent clear of graffiti and a whopping 99.66 per cent free of dog fouling.

Cllr Aaron Watkin, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: "These results are tremendous and show the hard work which is going on in our parks, high streets and other public areas to make the borough cleaner through our Clean It, Cut It, Fill it campaign even during these unprecedented times. It shows the additional money we've invested in street cleaning is really paying off.

"The results of the latest inspections, which were carried out after lockdown measures were eased, show that we are smashing targets, improving on last year's results and making sure the borough's public areas are cleaner than they have ever been.

"We know there are areas of the borough that still require more attention and we are working hard to make sure everywhere in Thurrock is as clean as possible.

"I would like to thank the street cleaning team for all the hard work they are doing and promise residents that we will keep up the good work to make sure our borough's streets, parks and other public areas are clean and tidy."

Keep Britain Tidy inspectors found:

  1. 33 per cent of sites they visited in the borough had better than acceptable litter level against a target of 91 per cent and up from 93.5 per cent last year
94 per cent had better than acceptable levels of graffiti

99 per cent had better than acceptable levels of fly-posters

  1. 67 per cent had better than acceptable levels of fly-tipping
  2. 67 per cent had better than acceptable levels of dog fouling

In February, Thurrock Council's environmental enforcement officers were named Team of the Year at the Keep Britain Tidy Awards 2020.
