THURROCK Council's Cabinet has recommended an increase in Council Tax with all additional funding being used for social care, environmental improvements and tackling anti-social behaviour.

Budget proposals approved by Cabinet on Wednesday evening (12 February) are for an increase of 1.49 per cent in general council tax and a 2 per cent increase in the social care precept having applied no council tax increase the previous financial year.

HORNDON on the Hill Feast and Fayre's annual 10K event is always a popular and fully subscribed affair - but this year one athlete is planning to make it even more special, by running the course continuously for 24 hours!

James Price will undertake his marathon effort starting at noon on Saturday, 27 June and after running through the day and night, he will do his final lap when the actual 10K sets off on Sunday morning.

POLICE have issued a plea for information after the handbag of a 75-year-old woman was stolen while she was shopping in Corringham.

The Essex force was contacted at around 11am on Tuesday, 11 February after the lady discovered her handbag had been stolen from a trolley at the Iceland supermarket in St John's Way, Corringham.

ADRIANNA and Diego Sabella found more than just a job when they started work at a Thurrock distribution centre. The Tilbury couple who met and fell in love while working in Amazon's operations network in the town have been featured in a video which is being shared across the world after it was announced on The Ellen Degeneres Show.

The very first time Diego saw Adrianna was during his interview for a safety manager position at Amazon. During a break in the interview, Diego was waiting in the canteen when he first saw receptionist, Adrianna. He was immediately captivated by her smile but had no chance to talk to her and did not think he would ever see her again.

A LORRY driver who failed to provide a breath test after travelling the wrong way around a roundabout and crashing in West Thurrock has received a three-year ban.

Jan Przepiorkka, 68, of no fixed address, appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court yesterday, Tuesday 11 February, where he was disqualified from driving for 36 month and was ordered to pay £620 courts costs and a £122 victim surcharge for failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

A TWELVE strong team of police officers and staff, are currently in Vietnam to meet the families impacted by the death of 39 illegal immigrants whose bodies were found in a lorry in West Thurrock in October 2019.

They will be in the country until the end of February and are working closely with the British Embassy and National Crime Agency international liaison staff in Hanoi, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, who have assisted with the arrangements for this trip.
