Grays Athletic 2, Canvey Island 1

GRAYS showed great resilience to overcome the loss of their goalkeeper who was dismissed after eight minutes - and going a goal behind - to win through in tonight's Essex Senior Cup fourth round tie.

Danny Sambridge got Gus marching orders for taking out a Canvey attacker through in his goal - though most observers thought he came from an offside position.

Outfielder Ashley Miller went in goal and on 33 minutes was beaten when Tobi Joseph scrambled the ball home.

George Purcell put the home side level a minute before the break and then fired home a free kick on 64 minutes.

Some comedic action from Milller between the sticks kept the fans entertained as Grays held out to earn a trip to Billericay in the next round.
