Youngsters enjoyed their day at East Thurrock United's Rookery Hill yesterday.

East Thurrock United entertained Southend United U23s in a match that drew a corwd of around 400 to Rookery Hill.

Many of them were members of the 'Young Rocks' youth set-up who were awarded certificates for their efforts for the club.

The match ended 1-0 to the visitors, decided by a goal in the 14th minute.

A DEPLETED Grays Athletic squad entertained Kingstonian at Aveley's Parkside ground and went down 2-1 despite taking the lead through Danny Gould on 30 minutes.

Kingstonian took the win thanks to two second half goals.

Blues manager Jim Cooper said he was frustrated by the injuries and bouts of illness that his squad have picked up but added: "I thought some of the lads who came in did well and took their chance. There were numerous players who turned up today and did so, so well."

Among them was another of the club's Ul6s, Dylan Sandhu-Nelson who made his first team debut – joining a number of graduates from the youth team gaining early senior experience during pre-season.

Grays are next in action against Tilbury next Saturday, with Cooper saying some of the players in the squad against Kingstonian would be released in the week as he had to reduce numbers.

Aveley were 2-1 winners against Cray Valley Paper Mills in their friendly yesterday.

The Millers are quickly back in action when they entertain East Thurrock United tomorrow (Monday, 19 July), kick-off 7.45pm.
