Witham Town 2, Tilbury 0

THERE was disappointment for Tilbury at the Simarco Stadium on Saturday (9 November) as their ten match unbeaten run ended at the hands of Witham, who jumped above then into second place in the Isthmian North table as a result.

Not a lot separated the sides in the first half with defences holding sway.

Dockers' Alfie Fry saw a 12th minute chance blocked and a strike from Alex Hernandez was well saved by Harry Fairs ten minutes later.

Soon after Fairs did well to deny a Lindell Stewart header.

Witham came closest to breaking the deadlock when Kamani McFarlane's effort struck the woodwork on the half hour and it was goalless at the break.

Tilbury had the first chance of the second half when Macauley Joynes' ball set Hernandez free but his effort was blocked and then Cameron Brodie, who had an impressive match, just failed to make contact when the rebound ball fell for him.

At the other end McFarlane was denied by a fine save from David Hughes but the deadlock was broken on 77 minutes when, after a scramble in the box, Frederick King forced the ball home.

Deep into around nine minutes of added time, Witham sealed the points when Dockers were caught out as they pushed everyone forward for an equaliser and Deese Kasinga Madia scored as Town broke away.

Tilbury are back in action on Tuesday (12 November) at Wingate and Finchley in the Isthmian Velocity Cup third round (7.45pm).
