TWO borough sides' involvement in the FA Cup ended last night (Wednesday, 23 August) as Grays Athletic and East Thurrock United bowed out in replays.
There was late drama on Saturday as East Thurrock got a last minute goal to earn a replay with Barton Rovers and the dose was repeated in reverse at Rovers' Sharpenhoe Road where two late goals from the hosts' Taylor Rhiney knocked Rocks out.
The visitors made a bright start and opened the scoring through Mo Amir on 15 minutes.
Though Josh Adeyileka put Barton level on 38 minutes Jesse Olukolu restored East Thurrock's lead just before half time.
It stayed that way until Rhiney comverted a penalty with six minutes to go and then he popped up with a last minute winner to make the final score 3-2.
There was also a last minute goal at Coles Park which ended Grays' hopes.
They too had required a late equaliser on Saturday to force the replay against New Salamis and they took that momentum into the second tie.
However, the hosts seized the initiative with two goals just half the half hour from Derek Asamoah.
It was a lead they took into the break but Chris Millar put Grays back into it was a 48th minute effort.
But the day was to belong to New Salamis who sealed a 3-1 victory through a 90th minute goal from Sergine Murtada Lo Seye.
