TO mark the 50th anniversary of the threatened Thameside Complex in Grays an invitation has gone out to former staff members of its library to reunite.

The 'Save the Thameside' campaign has highlighted the event as part of its efforts to focus attention on a landmark year in the site's history and has planned an event for later this month.

A statement says: "This is a public call out to all current and past members of staff of Grays Library.

"As this is the 50th Anniversary year - oh the irony - there will be a celebration and photoshoot on Saturday, 22January at 11a.m. Tea and cakes and loads of nattering.

"Libraries are quiet totally thrown out of the windows and doors. Everyone who has ever worked there - even in just passing by for the day at some time - ex Essex bods when the service was via them - come one, come all.

"Let your voices ring out in pride, shake the rafters, let them know - this place "was adored once too".
