THREE events recently took place highlighting the local community's support for lonely or disadvantaged people.

Supporters of the Thurrock Re-engage charity hosted three tea parties, prompting regional co-ordinator Loraine Coleman to say: "As always the biggest thank you to our fabulous volunteer drivers who drive all over Thurrock picking up our tea party guests.

"These wonderful events could not take place without these very special volunteers."

One of the groups was invited to Headon Hall in Stifford Clays where participants were treated to a delicious tea party today hosted by volunteer Helen, husband Chris and family and friends.

It was described as 'an afternoon of much laughter and happiness'.

Loraine added: "Thank you so very much Helen for giving our guests the best afternoon. We welcomed two new volunteer drivers, Lorraine and Rekha."

The Fleet at Purfleet also came in for praise after hosting an event, with Loraine adding: "Thank you so much to Michaela and the team at The Fleet. Our guests were treated to a selection of delicious fresh sandwiches, cakes and biscuits which were served with tea and coffee on the beautiful antique crockery which did not go unnoticed by our guests - they loved them."

And the third event took place at Dunelms at Lakeside.

Loraine said: "A fabulous welcome for Thurrock Re-engage group by Dunelms. A very tasty afternoon tea....lovely sandwiches and lots of cake.

"A special birthday cake for Doreen and all of the store joined in with the happy birthday chorus. You did us proud Dunelms."
