Find out more about plans to improve riverside flood defences

By Neil Speight 24th Sep 2022

A DROP-IN event will be held at the Thameside Theatre next month when residents can find out more about the Thames Estuary Plan, which aims to plot a way to manage expected rises in sea levels and plan the future of riverside communities.

The Environment Agency, which is managing the plan, is hosting a number of meetings including sessions in Canvey island, Dartford and Greenwich. And one will be held at the Thameside Theatre in Grays on Tuesday, 11 October from 4.30 to 8pm.

The public consultation will run for eight weeks from Monday, 26 September to give everyone the chance to comment on the information proposed for the updated plan and future flood defences.

Potential problems in the Grays area were highlighted in January this year when waters rose onto the riverside promenade.

The consultation includes:

• Updated outcomes that set out collective ambitions for flood risk management, sustainability and place-making

• Updated deadlines for putting flood risk management options in place based on the latest science and evidence

• Updates due to new policies and improved ways of working

• Questions on proposed background information and new features the agency could include in the updated online plan

As well as the public meetings, people can take part in an online consultation. It can be accessed from Monday (26 september) via this link or via the QR code in the picture above.

Information can also be obtained by emailing [email protected].
