INVESTIGATIONS are continuing into a five vehicle crash on the A13 last night (Sunday, 18 December) which caused extensive damage to crash barriers.

One lane remains coned off today pending work to repair the barriers. The incident happened a few hundred yards past the Orsett Cock roundabout.

A statement from Essex Police says: "We were called to A13 (London bound) shortly after 6.15pm on Sunday, 18 December where five vehicles were involved in a collision between Orsett Cock and A1089.

One vehicle collided with the central reservation. The damage to this and a lamp post meant the road in both directions was closed.

"The road was closed whilst we carried out investigative work, removed debris and recovery of vehicles took place.

"No serious injuries were reported at the time.

"Our enquiries continue."
